Terrorism Expert: Congress Talking Too Much About Threats
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A retired FBI agent says members of Congress are saying too much about the terror threats.
"It's a real issue here," said Danny Dafenbaugh, who spent more than 30 years with the FBI specializing in terrorism.
"You got the terrorist there that have been listening and saying, 'Well, we've been compromised on that. We are going to have to do something else.'"
Dafenbaugh said some of the details about the terror threats that's been made public could tip-off Al Qaeda as to how it's being tracked by intelligence agencies.
"I think it is probably going to be a great lose to our intelligences community," he said. "This can't continue and have terrorist or these terrorist events thwarted."
The retired FBI agent said issuing an alert to travelers along with the closure of more than 20 embassies in the Middle East would have served as a sufficient warning to travelers. He said he believes the details weren't necessary.
On CBS's Face the Nation, Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas said, "This is probably one of the most specific and credible threats I've seen probably since 9-11 and that is why everyone is taking this so seriously."
At DWF International Airport Sunday travelers going overseas said they were prepared for tighter security.
Muhammad Arsalan-Sheriff of Dallas was on his way to Pakistan. He said was aware of the terror threats but decided not to change his travel plans.
"I think you are pretty safe traveling anywhere," he said. "I would say just follow what they (airport security) tell you to do."
