Terrell Hospital Workers Upset Over Sudden Shutdown
TERRELL (CBS 11 NEWS) - Immediate jeopardy to patient health and safety.
Nursing staff failed to provide care to patients, resulting in their deaths.
Those statements are part of two evaluations of Renaissance Hospital in Terrell. The Department of State Health Services, along with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services offered such assessments that led to the closure of the hospital.
More than 100 employees immediately lost their jobs.
On Wednesday, more than one dozen nurses, medical technicians and other hospital employees met in the parking lot of the hospital, and voiced a different version of events.
"We cleaned up this hospital. We pulled together. Changes were happening," said human resources director Sonya Fullmer.
Fullmer and others said hospital staffers worked with inadequate supplies, but committed themselves to patients.
But City of Terrell officials say the evaluations of patient care, coupled with a $400,000 unpaid tax bill were reasons enough to close the facility.
The employees have no idea if they'll receive final paychecks from the hospital owner.
