10th Bobcat Captured In Frisco Home's Backyard
FRISCO (CBS 11 NEWS) - Frisco residents are on alert after yet another bobcat was spotted in a neighbor's backyard.
The area around Highway 121 and Legacy Drive is home to expensive homes and thriving businesses. It's also bobcat territory.
One Frisco homeowner, who does not want to be identified, has encountered 10 of them in her own backyard. That's 10 different bobcats on separate occasions in one backyard.
"This is a travel path that any bobcat in the area is going to come through," said Cliff Moore.
Moore owns a company, Animal Services Incorporated, that captures these cats.
He says the homeowner is worried about her grandchildren.
Moore captured the female bobcat found in her backyard Tuesday morning.
It looked hungry.
"It should weigh eight, nine, ten pounds more than it does," he said.
Frisco, Moore says, has been taking a thousand acres of its hunting grounds every year for development.
"And a bobcat needs about 3,000 acres per bobcat," he said.
Moore thinks there are as many as 100 bobcats in the City of Frisco and they're not the kind of neighbor you want to run into.
If you do..."Keep your eyes on it and back away and get to a safe place," he said.
Gary Strom has lived in Frisco for 13 years. He saw a bobcat just a couple of months ago.
"The cat was walking down the street. I was driving out of the complex," he said.
He's also seen one at the Stonebriar golf.
"People are worried they go after small dogs and cats. But as far as I know, that hasn't happened in our neighborhood," Strom said.
Strom likes the bobcats. He says they eat the rabbits that eat his wife's flowers.
Cliff Moore think the City of Frisco should relocate all the bobcats.
Gary Strom doesn't feel as strongly about that.
"I guess you can leave that up to the city council to decide what to do about them. As far as I'm concerned, leave them alone," he said.
The bobcat captured Tuesday morning will be relocated to donated ranch land in Texas.
