Temple Advances In Tourney With Win Over Penn State

TUSCON, AZ (Sports Network) - Juan Fernandez hit a contested jumper with just 0.4 seconds left on the clock as Temple survived for a 66-64 win over Penn State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

After Talor Battle had hit a wide open three-pointer with 14.2 seconds to play, Fernandez found himself with the ball, worked his way around a tight defense and put up a jumper that fell for the win.

Fernandez and Ramone Moore each totaled 23 points while Khalif Wyatt added 10 points for the Owls (26-7), who fell to Richmond in the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

Temple, seeded seventh in the West Region, is in the tournament for the 29th time and will face the winner of the Northern Colorado/San Diego State battle on Saturday.

Battle made five three-pointers and totaled 23 points while Tim Frazier had 15 points and six assists and David Jackson added 14 points for the Nittany Lions (19-15), who fell to Ohio State in the title game of the Big Ten Tournament.

The 10th-seeded Lions, who advanced to the conference tournament final for the first time in school history, were making their ninth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and fell to 9-11.
