PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - A neighborhood in Plano is on alert Friday after a teenager was shot on Thursday evening. This incident happened at around 7:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Treehouse Lane, near the intersection of Custer Road and Parker Road, and police said that the suspect is still on the loose.
The teen was at a friend's house, and the friend's father was there when the shooting took place. Herb Harmon stated that the teen stepped outside, and that is when a gunshot was heard. "He came in and went outside to meet a friend," the Plano father recalled, "and came back inside saying he was shot."
The victim was hit once in the abdomen.
"He looked like he went into shock," Harmon said. "He was complaining about his eyesight. But, in all, for a guy who had just been shot, he was doing alright."
Harmon rushed to the teen's rescue. "A kid who is 18 years old ran into my house asking for help," he said. "The good thing is we got him in the hospital, so hopefully he's going to be alright. That's the main thing."
But he did not survive. Police said that the victim, identified as Monterick Deyonta Payne of Plano, died at about 8:00 a.m. on Friday morning as a result of his injuries.
Police have not identified a possible suspect or motive for the attack. Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the Plano Police Department at 972-941-2148 or Crime Stoppers at 877-373-TIPS.
Harmon said that things like this do not typically happen in Plano, but he is grateful that he could help. "Plano is a pretty safe city, so to hear gunfire -- well, at first, I thought it was a firecracker, so I didn't even think it was gunfire," Harmon said. "That doesn't happen here in Plano but, like they say, there's a first time for everything, I guess."
