MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) - A 19-year-old girl tried to commit suicide at a Mesquite gun range, according to police.

In a statement issued by the Mesquite Police Department, the teenager is in critical condition but is expected to live.

The young woman walked in the Gun Zone gun range, located in the 2400 block of I-30, and presented a photo ID that indicated she was over the age of 21.

She rented a 9MM handgun, ammunition and safety equipment and was seen on security video firing the weapon inside the range.  At one point, she stopped firing at the target and intentionally turned the weapon on herself, firing one shot in her upper chest.

She was transported to Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
