Teenage Girl Living Happy After Beating Cancer

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A North Texas teen wanted one thing: to swim with the dolphins. Having endured treatment for a brain tumor while in grade school, Mary Margaret Deering and her family were relieved when the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Dallas-based travel company CheapCarribean.com granted her wish. The whole family was treated to a trip to Jamiaca.

Now, cancer-free, Deering is getting the chance to pay it forward. Through the month of October, people can log on to CheapCarribean.com and nominate a kid who is doing amazing things in their community.

"For a 250-word essay, explain why this child -- 18 and under -- should be nominated," said Nicole Ivey of CheapCarribean.com. "[Include] all the fun facts of what they are doing with the family, friends, school, and just what makes them a great nominee for this contest."

Deering was chosen to make the deciding vote -- choosing which kid and their family gets to go on a Mexican vacation.

If you ask Deering, Fiji is the next dream destination on her list. But for right now, she is still enjoying looking back at the photos and memories of her Jamaican adventure. "I would just say it was the most fun of my life and I had the best time. Make-A-Wish made it more happy because they sent me somewhere. It felt like I was out of the world -- I forgot about everything."
