Teen Killed After Car Crashes Into Fort Worth Home
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – A 17-year-old boy was killed early Saturday morning when the driver of the car he was riding in lost control, sending the vehicle skidding up a yard and through a bedroom of a home.
Fort Worth Police Department spokesman Pedro Criado said a 19-year-old man was driving the victim, a 12-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy in the 2900 block of Loving Ave. at about 1 a.m. Saturday.
It was raining, and the car was traveling at a high rate of speed. Criado said the driver, who has not been identified, quickly turned the car to the right "for an unknown reason" and clipped a minivan.
The Chevrolet Cobalt jumped the curb and drove through the front yard and a retaining wall, hitting a pickup truck parked in the driveway. The Cobalt rolled onto its ride side and hit the corner of a garage that had been converted into a bedroom, Criado said.
The roof collapsed on the car, seriously injuring the 17-year-old. Emergency crews transported the boy, identified later as Christian Hernandez, to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The other three individuals in the car were not injured, Criado said. In the home, Criado said a female was asleep in the room and suffered minor injuries. A baby was also asleep in the bedroom and was pushed off the bed, but was otherwise unharmed, Criado said.
No other victims have been identified. It was not clear whether alcohol was suspected in the accident.
