MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) – Corporal Eric Casebolt's resignation was applauded by the only teenager arrested by the former officer last Friday.

Casebolt is the McKinney police officer at the center of an investigation involving his behavior at a community pool party. He pulled his weapon on Adrian Martin, 18, who was arrested for Interfering with Public Duties and Evading Arrest.

"I was thinking this is it I'm going to get shot," said Martin, whose charges were dropped.

Former McKinney police officer and criminal defense attorney Pete Schulte said Casebolt had few options after the controversial incident.

"He was going to end up getting demoted or terminated. I believe that even after watching the news conference today," said Schulte.

But it was the video of his alleged manhandling of a 14-year-old girl that triggered protests for the officers firing.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the cell phone video of the incident, posted on YouTube, had been viewed nearly 10,000,000 times. Click here to view the video.

WARNING: The video contains graphic footage and explicit language that may be disturbing to some viewers.

CBS 11 News has learned Casebolt received a general discharge, which is a blemish on his record.

But the officer may not be off the hook.

"It doesn't change the ability for someone to come in a few years and file a lawsuit it doesn't stop anybody from filing criminal charges against," said Schulte.
