DESOTO (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities in Van Zandt County have taken a 16-year-old suspect into custody after a series of carjackings and a lengthy police chase that started late Tuesday night. Two other suspects remain on the loose early Wednesday.
The first carjacking incident took place at around midnight in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. The suspects took off with a stolen Cadillac CTS and went to a Jack in the Box restaurant in DeSoto.
Once there, one of the three suspects carjacked a Chevrolet Cobalt and left the scene. Police officers spotted the vehicle near the intersection of Interstate-20 and Hampton Road. The suspect led authorities on a chase that, at times, topped speeds over 100 mph.
The chase eventually ended along Interstate-20, just past the Van Zandt County line. Police were able to take the driver into custody, who ended up being a 16-year-old man. He now faces several charges including aggravated robbery.
Meanwhile, the other two suspects were located by Dallas police officers, still driving the stolen Cadillac. But when they were spotted by authorities, they jumped out of the car along Greenspan Drive, just south of Camp Wisdom Road in the Red Bird area of Dallas, and started to flee on foot.
Police searched the area, with help from canine units and the police helicopter, but were unable to find the suspects. It is not known, at this time, if these other individuals are also teenagers. Officials have not released a description of these suspects.
