NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Texas Senator Ted Cruz returned home to the Lone Star State looking for some momentum leading into Super Tuesday.

After winning Iowa, Cruz has come in third place in the last three states of New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada.

Cruz was welcomed home by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who endorsed him for President.

They both received big applause at the Mach Industrial Group in Houston Wednesday afternoon.

Cruz told hundreds of his supporters that Super Tuesday is six days away, and that it will be the most important day of the entire primary season.

Texas is the big prize with 155 delegates.

Cruz says as a consistent conservative, he is the only one who can beat the frontrunner, billionaire Donald Trump. "We can't be fooled by P.T. Barnum. The time for the clowns, acrobats, and dancing bears has passed."

The crowd roared with laughter and applause.

A spokeswoman with Trump's campaign didn't return an email seeking comment from CBS11.

Governor Abbott told the crowd Cruz is a consistent conservative they can trust.

"To fix Washington, DC, we need leaders like Ted Cruz to stand for the United States of America. When I vote for Ted Cruz, I know he'll fulfill the promise of true conservative values in the United States of America."
