Technology CEO Keeps The Dallas Fort Worth Area Connected

When you attend a special event at Dallas' Fair Park, (Taste of Dallas, Earth Day and the Irish Festival), you may not think about the wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) that is necessary to provide support for the various vendors throughout the Park. James Bandy, CEO of Brainband, makes sure the business doesn't stop by keeping the Wi-Fi going.

James Bandy is CEO of Brainband, a technology services company, that provides wireless Internet services for large venues at Dallas' Fair Park as well as provides instructional design and production of courses for online education companies.

"When a student takes a course, we provide the learning management system and everything from the course delivery to the grading interface," said Bandy.

Bandy's road to CEO started when he earned his bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. After completing his studies, Bandy joined the Air Force and after pilot training, served four years overseas. Bandy was honorably discharged as a captain.

Bandy earned his master's degree at the University of Southern California in systems management.  With his new degree Bandy moved to Dallas and worked as a marketing consultant on townhouses and condominiums. After a few successful projects, Bandy went to work for Texas Instruments (TI) as a consultant and later as a manager. Bandy worked on several projects to help streamline automation of semi-conductor production planning – getting several divisions working together.

"I didn't do anything conventionally anywhere I worked," said Bandy about exploring something new.

Because of his success at TI, a software company in San Diego recruited Bandy. As the director of new business development and vice president of Softech Microsystems, Bandy helped provide the initial software for the first IBM personal computer. Later Bandy returned to Dallas and fully automated a law firm's loan document preparation system to allow them to remotely laser print in 550 locations nationwide. Projects continued to present themselves, and Bandy's company was born.

When asked about earning his master's degree Bandy said, "A master's tells others that you have a higher level of competency. It takes a lot more effort and self-initiative to get a post-graduate degree. You have to want it. You have to go get it."
