TCU QB Pachall Admitted Failed Drug Test To Police
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - As the 2012 football season gets underway on TCU's campus, a recently-obtained police report by the school's student media could surround the Horned Frogs' starting quarterback in controversy.
Friday afternoon TCU360.com reported Casey Pachall, a Junior in his second year as starting quarterback, admitted to the Fort Worth Police Department he failed a student drug test.
Pachall spoke with police as part of their February 2012 drug raid on the Fort Worth campus. Pachall's roommate, former Horned Frog Tanner Brock, was among 16 students arrested in the early morning hours of February 15.
Pachall was not arrested in connection to the case, and was never considered a suspect. In the report obtained by TCU 360, he told police he failed the test two days after smoking marijuana. The test was given to all members of the Horned Frog football team two weeks before the raid.
After the arrests, Coach Gary Patterson told the media his team was trying to move 'Straight Forward' into the 2012 season, their first in the Big 12 Conference.
In a statement released today, Patterson said, "We were aware of Casey testing positive on Feb. 1. I have always taken a very strong stand on student-athlete health and welfare. We have policies and educational programs in place to help guide our student-athletes. We are committed to helping them make healthy choices and have moved forward. We have had 25 drug tests in the last 18 months, including one by the NCAA at the Rose Bowl. We've had six drug tests since February."
