TCU Kicker Arrested For Kicking In Door
DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - TCU Senior Ross Evans is known for having a powerful leg as the starting kicker for the defending Rose Bowl champion Horned Frogs football team.
But his leg may have gotten him in trouble after he kicked in a door to a Denton apartment on November 8, three days after scoring 7 points in the Frogs' 31-20 win over Wyoming.
Denton Police spokesman Ryan Grelle says Evans was charged with criminal trespass of a habitation in the November 8 incident in the 2700 block of Colorado Street.
Evans, 21, told police he kicked the door in an attempt to locate a friend's cellphone. Evans said a man had stolen the phone from the friend and that he kicked in the door to retrieve it or find the person who stole it.
The police report paints a slightly different picture. The report says around 2:00 a.m. on the 8th Evans kicked in the door looking for a man named 'William' but confronted a roommate instead. Evans then kicked in a bedroom door and told the roommate to tell William that "Ross had been there looking for his money" and that he needed to call Evans.
Grelle says the phone in question was eventually returned to the owner.
Evans turned himself in to police Monday, the same day he was named the Mountain West Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the Horned Frogs' win over Colorado State.
In a statement to CBSDFW.com, TCU Athletic Director Chris Del Conte said "We are aware of the situation and still gathering information."
After being processed through Evans bonded out of the Denton jail on a $2,500 bond Monday afternoon.
