Now through November 23, Autumn at the Dallas Arboretum features the nationally acclaimed Pumpkin Village with over 90,000 pumpkins, gourds and squash and was named one of "America's Best Pumpkin Festivals," according to Fodor's Travel in 2015.
If you love the beautiful flowers at the Arboretum each spring, now you can buy your own! Back by popular demand, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is selling spring-blooming bulbs that are perfect for winter planting. Bulb packages range from $23 to $83 and include hyacinths, muscari, daffodils, paperwhites and tulips. Orders are open through November 7, with shipments starting in late November, just in time for perfect winter planting. Bulb purchases can be made online.
Here is a cool way to spend Columbus Day Weekend (10/8-10). Check out The Perot Museum's opening weekend of Birds of Paradise, 3D films, Discovery Days, Giant Gems of the Smithsonian and more. And be sure to feast your eyes on some serious eye candy in Giant Gems of the Smithsonian, featuring 29 mineral masterpieces, many weighing over 1,000-plus carats! The 4th Annual U.S. Ocarina Festival is this weekend at the Allen Public Library. This free event features over 20 ocarina virtuosos from the United States and Japan. Dating back over 12,000 years, the ocarina is a beloved ancient wind instrument with an enchanting sound that captivates audiences but many people became aware of the ocarina because of the video game, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Fright Fest 2016 is at Six Flags Over Texas.
Screams is open for its 2016 season and unveils its newest haunted attraction, the Zombie Wasteland. They actually have 3 Haunted Houses, the CarnEvil Clown Maze and the all new Zombie Wasteland! Plus, there is live entertainment on the Screams® stage, Scary-Oke, games of skill, shops, a food court, a full service restaurant and pubs (for those over 21) to deliver a whole night of Halloween fun! Screams will be open on Friday & Saturday Nights now through October 29, 2016 from 7:30 PM to 1:30 AM and is located in Waxahachie, just 30 minutes south of downtown of Dallas off of I-35E at exit 399A on the Scarborough Faire® site. Parking is free compliments of Waxahachie Autoplex. Admission is $30 at the gate.
The Great State Fair of Texas continues this weekend and runs through October 23 at Fair Park.
The Texas OU Game happening at the Cotton Bowl Saturday morning at 11.
