Tarrant Tops Texas List Of County-By-County Hailstorms
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - There are many things the people of Tarrant County take pride in, but being first in the state on a new list is likely not one of those things.
According to the Insurance Council of Texas and National Weather Service data, Tarrant County is first in the state when it comes to number of hailstorms.
National Weather Service records show since 1955 there have been 800 hailstorms to hit Tarrant County. Randall County in the panhandle was second on the list, with 680 storms.
If Dallas County numbers are added in, there have been 1,350 hailstorms in the immediate Dallas/Fort Worth area since 1955, the year the Weather Bureau started keeping records on individual hailstorms.
The information from the Insurance Council of Texas, a trade association of insurance companies, comes out ahead of a combined War on Hail conference they are hosting November 28 in Irving. The ICT has also produced a map showing a county-by-county look at hailstorm numbers, damage and property loss.

The council and NWS also stress that numbers can be skewed based on self-reporting of hailstorms. The NWS encourages everyone to report severe weather to their local weather office.
