Tarrant County Deputy Cut In Neck By Suspected Bank Robber
FORT WORTH (AP/CBSDFW) - A Tarrant County sheriff's deputy working off-duty as a security officer and a bank robber have both been seriously injured in a confrontation that followed a chase.
Fort Worth police say the deputy pursued the robber, who left a Fort Worth Community Credit Union branch on Brentwood Stair road about 9:30 a.m. Saturday with an undetermined amount of money. The deputy confronted him in a parking lot. Investigators say the suspect cut the deputy in the neck as the deputy simultaneously shot the man in the head.
The deputy, identified as Frederick Bauer, was hospitalized in good condition. He was treated and released Saturday afternoon.
Bauer is an eight-year veteran with the sheriff's department. He was working in full uniform in an officially approved off-duty security job.
Authorities say the incident began after the suspect approached a bank teller and passed a note demanding money.
The man who robbed the bank was in critical condition. He is expected to be charged with Aggravated Robbery and Criminal Attempt Capital Murder.
