TABC To Consider Gun Show Alcohol Sales

AUSTIN (AP) - The state's liquor control board will consider a staff recommendation against a proposal to allow the sale of alcohol at some gun shows.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is to take up the question at its regular meeting Tuesday in Austin.

The proposal would have set strict conditions for alcohol sales at gun shows, including a ban on live ammunition sales. Also, the revision would have required that a firearm be disabled and not immediately turned over to the buyer.

Nevertheless, the initial plan caused an uproar when it was introduced last month, with hundreds of responses poured in from all sides of the gun-rights issue. Texas prohibits concealed handgun license holders from carrying their weapons into bars.

Eventually, the commission staff recommended that the panel withdraw the proposal.
