Broadnax Set To Be Next Dallas City Manager

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Tacoma City Manager T.C. Broadnax has been named as the sole finalist to become the next Dallas City Manager.
The topic of picking a new City Manager was the focus of a Dallas City Council closed-door meeting on Friday. At one point, there was a break in the meeting. Mayor Mike Rawlings reconvened the session and said that an announcement about the next city manager would be made soon.
A short time later, the Mayor's Office issued the following statement:
I am pleased to announce that the Dallas City Council will vote this Wednesday on whether to appoint T.C. Broadnax as our next city manager.
Mr. Broadnax, who has been the city manager in Tacoma, Washington, since 2012, previously worked for five years as a San Antonio assistant city manager. He also obtained a Master's of Public Administration from the University of North Texas in 1993. So he is no stranger to our state and region.
On behalf of the Dallas City Council, I want to thank all of the candidates who interviewed for this position, especially Dallas Assistant City Manager Mark McDaniel. Mark has been a tremendous leader for our city since his hiring in 2014.
Four outsiders were competing against Dallas Assistant City Manager Mark McDaniel for the top job. The five candidates met with council members and the public earlier this week. City staff also took the finalists on a tour to Dallas Love Field and other city facilities on Monday.
Broadnax will have a lot to deal with right away, like solving problems with the troubled police and fire pension system, hiring a new police chief and tackling other issues such as the city's crumbling streets and homeless population.
Council members had roughly seven weeks to fill the position before current City Manager A.C. Gonzalez retired.
After the announcement was made, Rawlings said that the city is in the process of negotiating Broadnax's salary and start date. Gonzalez had an annual salary of $400,000. As the mayor said in his statement, the Dallas City Council is expected to make the news official after a vote on Wednesday.
