Syrian Woman Now Living In Texas Reacts To U.S. Attack

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - One day after a chemical weapons attack that killed dozens, the U.S. launched airstrikes in Syria.
Meanwhile, the television is on in the living room of Samar Al Hesan. She and her family are closely following the latest news from back home. CBS 11 News sat down with Al Hesan, who used to live in Syria but now calls North Texas home.
It's been nearly four years since Al Hesan moved from Syria to the U.S. She says she left everything and everyone behind to save her life.
She left a part of her heart behind in Syria after her husband of 18 years was killed.
"We shared a very fantastic life together. He was an amazing man," said Samar Al Hesan. "I hope I can see the place my husband was buried." I don't know where he is. I didn't get the chance to see his body."
She believes her husband, a cardiologist, was tortured and killed – targeted for helping people hurt in attacks by the Assad regime.
Al Hesan and her father routinely monitor Arab channels for the latest news.
"Really, I hope there will be a solution for people there. Inside of me, I'm burning. I cannot do anything for people who are there. I wish I could be there to help them. But I cannot," said Al Hesan.
Her lifeline to Syria is a cell phone.
The update from her 97-year-old mother in law: their family is safe – no one was hurt in the chemical attack earlier this week.
Samar says she supports Thursday night's U.S. missile strike.

Her home's filled with pictures of her late husband. It's a blend of an old life, and the new one her family has now embraced.
