SXSW Crash Victim Released From Hospital, Back In North Texas

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - One of the two Fort Worth victims of last week's deadly South by Southwest crash in Austin is back home in North Texas.
Curtisha Davis' life was turned upside down when an accused drunk driver drove through a crowd at the SXSW Festival.
Davis made it back to her Fort Worth home Tuesday afternoon. The 17-year-old is walking with the help of family members and even spent a few minutes sitting outside, talking to visitors.
Davis said the best part about being home is seeing her friends who weren't able to visit her while she was hospitalized in Austin. She said it feels good to know so many people care. Walking slowly out her front door she posed for pictures with friends, flashing a smile and a peace sign, happy to finally be home.
Looking at video from her stay in an Austin hospital it was easy to see the teenager has come a long way. While still hospitalized family members played music to get Davis moving and to lift her spirits.
Now family members, like Davis' aunt, want to focus on the future. "We're just worried about her getting her health back and getting her back where she needs to be. That's it."

Davis was at SXSW Thursday with her boyfriend Deandre Tatum, when a suspected drunk driver plowed through the crowd, running down the couple and dozens of others.
Davis said she, her boyfriend, and another friend had just picked up something to eat and were walking down the sidewalk. That is the last thing she remembers. "We was [sic] all walking next to each other… and all of a sudden we all got split up," she said, fighting back tears.
Deandre Tatum suffered more serious injuries and remains in a medically induced coma at an Austin hospital. With the mention of Tatum's name, Davis said, "I don't want to talk about him."
After the accident Davis thinks she blacked out. She doesn't remember anything about the actual crash, only that she came to and found herself in the hospital. The Trimble Tech High School senior said, "I woke up to my Granny. She was holding my hand." The teenager suffered a broken leg and has between 50 and 60 stitches.
While the teenager is happy to be alive she said, "I wish I wasn't like this. I wish I was just regular old me."
Now Davis says she wants to see suspect Rashad Owens suffer for the pain he's caused. "I don't want him to live, because obviously he didn't want me to live if he ran me over."
Owens, 21, is charged with capital murder and remains jailed on a $3 million bond.
The SXSW wreck killed three people and injured more than a dozen others.
Meanwhile, Davis isn't sure when she'll return to school, but said she is on track to graduate this June.
