Suspicious String Of Fires Continues In Frisco
FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Fire destroyed a third home in the past two months in the Grayhawk subdivision in Frisco.
While firefighters call all three 'suspicious', Fire Chief Mark Piland said he can't say for certain the latest fire is connected to the other two.
Neighbors, however; are convinced.
"There is definitely someone causing some mischief because they all have been so close, "said Alyssa Majors who lives just down the street from two of the fires and a block away from Sunday's fire.
Early Sunday morning no one was home at the two-story house on Burr Oak when it caught fire.
Investigators said it appears the fire started in the back of the house.
Two months ago a nearby home under construction caught on fire. A few weeks later another home under construction next door also caught on fire.
Neighbor Ron Lunsford said it's not just houses.
His wife's car was set on fire in his driveway three days after the first house fire in the area.
"There is an extreme concern - an extreme fear," said Lunsford.
Jennie and Jason Reed and their children live right in the middle of all the recent fires.
The Frisco couple said it plans on buying a home security camera and has talked to neighbors about taking turns patrolling late at night when the fire have occurred.
Chief Piland called a news conference Sunday to ask neighbors to be on the look-out and to report and suspicious activity.
Frisco arson investigators along with officers from the state's fire marshal office spent most of Sunday combing through the latest charred home.
Neighbors said each fire has been a little bigger than the last and a little more brazen.
That, Lunsford said, worries him the most.
"So what's next? There is a ton of concern."
As suspicious as the string of fires are, Frisco Fire Chief Mark Piland said he isn't ready to officially label the incidents as "connected."
"There are issues that are surrounding the fire that lead us to believe that there is something suspicious surrounding it. And during our preliminary investigations that's the way we are looking at it," said Piland.
Many residents have expressed their concern that the fire ares connected. Adding to their angst is the fact that a car was set on fire last month not far from where the homes were set ablaze.
"There is definitely someone causing some mischief just because they are so close. We all have kids and we definitely don't want someone coming to our house - scary," said Frisco resident Alyssa Majors.
Investigators said they are using all of their available resources to resolve the situation.
