ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Arlington and FBI agents were called to Cowboys Stadium around 8:00 a.m. on Friday morning to investigate reports of a suspicious package dropped in a drainage ditch on the north side of the upcoming Super Bowl venue, along Randol Mill Road.
According to Lt. Pedro Arevalo with the Arlington Fire Department, somebody witnessed a person throw the package into the ditch on the road outside the stadium. Authorities have not said what made them think that the package was suspicious.
It turns out to have been a false alarm.
When authorities arrived on the scene, they found some type of device located under a manhole cover in the middle of the road. The bomb squad was deployed to handle the device. Arevalo said that there were no wires or electronics attached to the device.
After investigating, police say the package turned out to be nothing more than trash.
Cowboys Stadium in Arlington will host the first Super Bowl in North Texas on February 6, when the Green Bay Packers face the Pittsburgh Steelers.
