PARKER COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - It's a crime that seems to be happening more and more often. Police in Willow Park are searching for the suspects who got away after an attempted ATM 'smash and grab'.
It was just after 3 a.m. when police were notified about alarm on an ATM machine at the First Financial Bank, in the 4100 block of the Interstate-20 service road.
When officer arrives at the bank they saw a dark colored, extended cab Chevy pickup park next to the ATM. One man, wearing a grey, hooded sweatshirt, was outside of the truck trying to pry open the machine. When the officer approached the driver began to pull of quickly, almost leaving the person behind. The man who was trying to break into the ATM caught up with the truck and jumped in.
Police chased the suspects from Willow Park into Fort Worth. Officers said they noticed sparks flying near the vehicle and believe they may have been caused by a chain being dragged. Police lost sight of the truck near Loop 820 and Chapin Road.
While the ATM received major damage, investigators don't believe the crooks actually reached the money vault inside.
Police are reviewing surveillance video and continue their search for the suspects.
