Suspects Ejected In Garland Police Chase
GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - One suspect died and another suspect was critically injured following a police chase in Garland early Thursday morning. The incident started just before 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Interstate-635 and Northwest Highway, as a police officer attempted to make a traffic stop.
According to Joe Harn with the Garland Police Department, two men in a black 2007 Ford Crown Victoria refused to pull over for the officer, opting instead to speed away, westbound toward Dallas. The driver lost control of the vehicle at a curve in the road. The car hit a curb, left the roadway and rolled over several times along a grassy area.
Two men were thrown from the vehicle during the crash. One of the suspects -- identified as 28-year-old Daniel Ray Melrose of Dallas -- died from his injuries at Baylor Medical Center at Dallas. The other suspect -- who has not yet identified by authorities -- was transported to Parkland Hospital with life threatening injuries.
Police are not sure which suspect was actually driving at the time of the crash, nor do they know why the suspects refused to stop for police. Officials have not said what charges might be filed in this case.
