ARLINGTON (CBSDFW) - A teenager accused of stealing a vehicle in Grand Prairie late Tuesday night is killed after abandoning the vehicle, running away on foot, and being hit by a driver along a busy highway in Arlington.
Police say someone related to the owner of the stolen car confronted the teenager as he made his getaway. At some point, while trying to escape from the person pursuing him, the suspect jumped out of the car, climbed over a guardrail and jumped down an embankment along State Highway 360, near Avenue J.
The teen was hit as he tried to cross the highway, into the northbound lanes of traffic, on foot. He died at the scene.
The name of the teenager has not been released, but police say he was younger than 18-years-old.
Traffic along northbound Highway 360 was shut down for hours as police conducted their investigation. All lanes were reopened before sunrise.
