Suspected Bedford Murderer Extradited Back To Texas

BEDFORD (CBSDFW.COM) - The man accused in the stabbing a Bedford woman and her young son to death earlier this week is back in North Texas from Oklahoma.

Cedric Ricks is the prime suspect in the stabbing deaths of his ex-girlfriend, 30-year-old Roxann Sanchez, and her eight-year-old son Anthony Reyes Figueroa.

Bedford police were called to the Colonial Village at Shore Creek apartments before 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sanchez, her two school age children and a baby were inside. Only the 8-month-old infant was uninjured.

Investigators were quickly able to determine that Ricks was suspected of having committed the crimes and less than three hours later the 38-year-old was arrested by Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers, about 70 miles north of the Oklahoma-Texas border.

Garvin County, Oklahoma Undersheriff Jim Mullett said initially Ricks was determined to stay in Oklahoma. "At first he had fought his extradition. This morning he had requested to see the judge and we found that opportunity with the judge this afternoon."

The Bedford murder suspect was in court for less than 10 minutes. "He advised he wanted to go back to Texas. He waived his waiver and he was sent on his way," said Mullett who wouldn't give a timeline of when everything happened. He said, "I can't give you an exact time, because of security reasons. [I can] let you know he is no longer in our facility."

Police believe Ricks also attacked Sanchez' oldest son. The 12-year-old remains in Cook Children's Hospital with stab wounds. Despite being injured the boy managed to call 911 during the attack. He described seeing Ricks murder his mother and little brother, telling the operator, "My brother is not talking to me." When the operator asked if he was hurt, he responded, "everywhere."

Until Friday afternoon, Ricks was being held in Oklahoma on a $2 million Texas warrant. Now back in North Texas, Ricks has been charged with two counts of Capital Murder, which is punishable by life without parole or the death penalty. He has also been charged with  Serious Bodily Injury to a Child for the attack on the 12-year-old.

Of the three children in the apartment, the baby is the only one fathered by Ricks. That child is now in the care of Child Protective Services.
