DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Artrai Alexander is the man best remembered for being brought down by the woman in the minivan he plowed into while speeding away from police Wednesday in North Dallas.

He tells CBS 11 from behind jail glass what happened isn't his fault.

Alexander says he's sorry he crashed into the family, but says they should be glad he didn't pull his gun on them.  "I actually could have pulled that gun," says Alexander.   "They should be grateful, yeah, that I didn't pull the gun on them."

Alexander's accused of stealing a white Dodge Challenger, but says he took that car after its owner pulled a gun on him.  He ultimately crashed into three cars in a school zone. He says he's not the one Jessica Leismann should be mad at.

"They should have been more upset at the police for chasing me."

He said the reason he ran from police is he feared they'd shoot him.
