FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – A troubled marriage led to a murder-suicide in south Fort Worth according to family members of the suspect and victim.

Police were called out to the 3800 block of Ryan Boulevard early Wednesday morning after neighbors reported hearing gun shots.

Officers found a woman shot to death inside her car and a man lying in the street.

Fort Worth Police would only identify them as a woman and her estranged husband.

The couple's adult son identified them as Blanca Lilia Castanon and Rodolfo Vargas.

It is believed Vargas confronted Castanon as she was picking up neighborhood kids to take them to school, according to family members.

Castanon's own daughter was also with her according to neighbors.

One neighbor whose home surveillance cameras recorded the incident, said Vargas was seen speaking to Castanon before he shot her.

"You can see the flashes and then you see him fall to the ground after that," said Jeremy Ogeda.

The children are said to have witnessed the shootings, but they were not physically hurt.

Vargas' landlord also showed up at the scene of the murder-suicide after hearing what happened.

She didn't want to be identified but she said Vargas, who rents a room in her house, was up late last night talking up how he planned to harm his ex-wife.

The landlord said she thought she was able to convince him not to do it.

She said Vargas said, "I don't care about jail I don't care about anything. I am going to do it."

Fort Worth Police confirm Castanon had filed an emergency protective order against Vargas back in September.
