DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A police chase that began in Forney early Tuesday morning ended with the suspect being shot and killed by authorities, and two other people taken into custody. The incident started just after 4:00 a.m. when officers were called about a suspicious vehicle.

Police found that car parked behind a Best Western hotel located in the 700 block of Pinson Road. When officers attempted to stop the driver, that suspicious vehicle started to flee from the scene. The Forney Police Department initiated a chase, and was then joined by officers with the Mesquite Police Department and the Dallas Police Department.

A helicopter provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety also assisted with the pursuit. Officials with the Dallas County Sheriff's Department arrived later as well.

During the chase, the suspect slowed down to let two female passengers out of his vehicle. Those women were both taken into custody by pursuing officers and are being questioned. Their names have not been released.

The chase ended along Riverwood Road, not far from Dowdy Ferry Road in southeast Dallas. Neighbors heard the commotion at around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, including police sirens and gunshots. "I heard the cop cars and -- boom, boom, boom -- four or five shots," said resident Royce Fain. "And about 20 squad cars going down there, and then a helicopter."

According to Maj. Max Geron with the Dallas Police Department, the suspect stopped, got out of his vehicle and started to fire shots at the responding officers. At least one Forney Police Department squad car was hit by gunfire. Officers from Forney and Mesquite returned fire, striking and killing the suspect at the scene.

No police officers were injured during this incident.

The suspect has not yet been identified. Investigators did recover a handgun next to his body.

A distraught woman arrived at the scene later Tuesday morning, saying that the killed suspect is her 37-year-old husband. But police have not allowed her to go near the crime scene at this point.
