Suspect Killed By Parker County Sheriff's Deputies' Return Fire

PARKER COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) — Parker County sheriff's deputies' return fire killed a 36-year-old man, who shot at them first, Friday night, according to the Parker County Sheriff's Office.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified the man as 36-year-old Sully Lanier.
The deputies responded to a series of 9-1-1 calls placed by the suspect, whose identity has not been released, in the 100 block of Couch Court beginning around 10:30 p.m. Friday night, Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said. The sheriff's office said the suspect verbally abused the telecommunications operator, said he was armed and "belligerently" demanded to speak to deputies for unknown reasons throughout the calls.
When deputies arrived and dispatchers asked the man to "peacefully exit the residence with his hands up," he verbally threatened the life of the "first cop [he] see[s]," the office said. The suspect then ran toward the deputies, who ordered him to the ground, while firing a rifle five times.
The deputies returned fire, struck him in the neck and called paramedics. The suspect died at the scene.
"This incident is a tragedy," Fowler said. "Any time we have an officer-involved shooting incident, we request the Texas Rangers to conduct an investigation."
The investigation is ongoing.
