Frisco Mom Murder Suspect Found In Arizona
PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - An arrest has been made in the case of Susan Loper, a Frisco mom who was found dead earlier this week, but the way the arrest was made is what has so many surprised.
Loper, 40, was abducted from Gleneagles Country Club in Plano where she'd been a pilates instructor for more than 16 years.
On Tuesday police said they believed the Frisco mother was a victim of foul play. Around midnight Wednesday, Plano police found her 2010 Toyota Rav 4 in a public parking lot near Preston Road and the Dallas North Tollway. Later Wednesday morning police found Loper's body in a wooded area.
On Friday afternoon Plano Police spokesman Rick McDonald said they have issued an arrest warrant for Terrance Deering Black, a 48-year-old ex-boyfriend of Loper's. Black also lives in Frisco.
On Friday evening, the U.S. Marshals office confirmed that Black was located in Arizona Friday afternoon, but the circumstances of his arrest took a bizarre turn.
Black was found at the Grand Canyon panhandling for change. When park rangers approached Black, he jumped over the rim of the edge and fell 25 feet from the rim. Park workers rescued Black, only then learning he was wanted for murder in Frisco. He has since been taken into custody and is being treated at a Flagstaff, Arizona hospital for his injuries.
Officer McDonald says police were working non-stop on the case. "They're [investigators] very, very emotionally involved in this and it's a very sad situation."
Texas Rangers will be traveling to Arizona to return Black to Collin County.
For Loper's closest friends and family, little can be done to bring them comfort. "I don't think there's any way to start processing it all. Right now, we're in survival mode," said friend Julie Mitchell.
