BRYAN (CBSDFW.COM) - The suspect in the March abduction and eventual death of a Central Texas store clerk has been indicted on murder, kidnapping and aggravated robbery counts.
A Brazos County grand jury on Thursday indicted Nathaniel Tillery of Bryan, who remains in custody.
College Station police on March 17 responded when a customer found a convenience store empty. Store surveillance video helped police determine that the clerk, Kevin Garcia, was beaten and abducted during an attempted robbery.
Investigators say Garcia was throw into the bed of his own pickup truck and driven to North Texas. Tillery was arrested in Haslet after driving to a relative's house with the critically wounded Garcia still in the back of the vehicle.
Garcia, 55, suffered brain damage from the assault and remained in a coma before his family made the decision to remove him from life support on March 20. He had been a clerk at the Exxon convenience store in College Station for 14 years.
