DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A man was killed and his girlfriend was wounded after a shooting in Dallas late Sunday night. The incident happened shortly before 9:00 p.m. in the 7600 block of Ashcrest Drive, and police are now trying to find out what led up to the violent attack.
Officers arrived at a home and discovered the man dead outside with multiple gunshot wounds. He has been identified as 25-year-old Lasalle Jones. The victim's girlfriend was also outside of the home with a gunshot wound to the leg. She is expected to be okay. Her name has not been released.
Police explained that the two victims were parked in front of the home when they became involved in an argument with another man. During the altercation, that suspect pulled out a gun and started firing shots.
The deadly shooting rocked the Dallas neighborhood, but authorities said that there is no reason for families in the area to be scared. The suspected shooter has already been taken into custody. He has been identified as 56-year-old Michael McDonald.
Police stated that McDonald first fled from the scene, but later came back and turned himself in to officers. He has been charged with murder and is now behind bars. Investigators are working to determine a motive for the attack.
A woman claiming to be McDonald's girlfriend told a different version of the story, stating that the suspect was actually acting in self-defense as he attempted to stop a domestic dispute. Police have not commented on those details.
