Suspect In Court For Arlington Crash & Murder
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The man accused of killing a Good Samaritan following a massive wreck in Arlington last December will appear in a Tarrant County court on Tuesday morning. Thomas Harper is charged with numerous crimes including murder, manslaughter and two counts of child endangerment.
According to the Arlington Police Department, the defendant was responsible for a huge eight-vehicle crash. It started with a hit-and-run and developed into a high-speed collision along Collins Street, near Brown Boulevard, on December 14, 2011.
Investigators said that 18-year-old Clarance Robinson rushed to the wreckage to help out Harper's twin toddlers in the vehicle's backseat. But Robinson was shot and killed at the scene. Just last week, Robinson was honored by the City of Arlington for his selfless act.
Toxicology tests revealed that Harper was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash. Harper's father told the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department that his son was suffering from mental problems and had been on medication.
The hearing on Tuesday is in preparation for a trial, to be held at a later date.
