Police Shoot Suspect After Irving Chase
IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - A man remains in critical condition on Thursday after getting involved in a gun battle with Irving police officers on Wednesday night, following a pursuit.
Authorities were called at about 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday regarding a domestic disturbance, and a man who had made threats to family members including a woman and her children. Police were just starting to investigate the incident, they said, when officers spotted the man driving a silver Chevrolet Tahoe in the 1300 block of Pioneer Drive.
"The pursuit ended when the suspect pulled into the driveway of a residence in the 600 block of Balleywood," said Irving Police spokesman John Argumaniz. "The suspect got out of the vehicle armed with an assault rifle and started shooting at the pursuing officers. Two officers returned fire striking the suspect multiple times."
That suspect was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas and was in critical condition at last report. His name has not yet been released. According to authorities, he is either the wife or girlfriend of the woman who was threatened.
At least one Irving police car in front of the home on Wednesday night appeared to have a broken window, but police could not confirm if any cars were hit by bullets. None of the officers were hurt during the shooting.
