DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A special education teacher was in the wrong place at the wrong time on Wednesday morning, as he inadvertently became involved in the ending of a police chase. It happened at the intersection of Northwest Highway and Garland Road in Dallas.
According to police, the suspect had stolen an SUV from somebody just after 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning in the 7200 block of Skillman Street. Authorities spotted the vehicle and started a chase.
Stephen Ford was heading to Caldwell Elementary School for work as a special education teacher when the carjacking suspect slammed into his minivan. Ford said that the suspect ran through a red light and crashed into the side of his car. According to Ford, the suspect then got out and tried to run from the police on foot.
However, the suspect was quickly apprehended by officers.
Ford said that there was nothing he could do to prevent the crash. "He just ran it going like 105. I just saw him. I turned to get away, but he sped through," Ford recalled. "God is good. Some people die from it. If you take life for granted, I could easily be dead, family upset. But angels watching over me or something, honestly."
There were no injuries were reported. The collision did cause some delays at that intersection on Wednesday morning, but the scene has since been cleared.
