Suspect Collides With Police After Grand Prairie Chase
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A routine traffic stop turned into a prolonged chase when a suspect refused to stop for police in Grand Prairie on Thursday night.
The Grand Prairie Police Department attempted to pull over 19-year-old Ramiro Cano around 11:30 p.m. for speeding near I-20 and Great Southwest. The suspect refused to stop and continued eastbound on the highway.
The suspect led police north on U.S. Highway 360 in the direction of the south entrance to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The vehicle spun out and struck a police car while attempting a u-turn in the grassy median just south of the airport toll plaza.
Cano was extracted from his vehicle and taken into custody without incident.
A firearm was located on the driver's side floorboard where the driver was removed from the vehicle. He is now being charged with evading arrest and the unlawful carrying of a firearm.
A female passenger in the fleeing vehicle cooperated with law enforcement and was released at the scene. It is unclear if she will face any charges.
