A Cycling 'Superdrome' In Frisco
FRISCO (KRLD) -- Arlington may be home to Cowboys Stadium and Rangers Ballpark , but Frisco has plenty of sports treasures too, including one you may have not know much about.
The Superdrome is a 100,000 square foot, 250-meter long outdoor wood bicycle racing track built in 1999. It's one of only 23 such tracks in the nation.
And while anyone is free to ride around the track, a number of competitive events have made their way to Frisco.
Frisco's Superdrome
"It's been used for two Olympic trials, a World Cup, six national championships, and every Friday night we have bike racing," said Tim Goodwin, who manages the facility. "The fastest I've seen someone ride is about 52 to 55 miles per hour. We've had some of the fastest people in the US be based out of Dallas and Frisco."
The track, which cost $4 million to bring to life, is located on the Collin County Preston Ridge Campus and is owned by the city of Frisco.
While the course and its 45 degree banks can be intimidating for some, a number of classes are offered for riders of all levels.
"All we need is a breathing body and we have kids programs three times a week," said Goodwin.
The kids classes are free for kids 18 and under. Adult classes are offered for just $25.
