Summit Hopes To Lure Chinese Business To Texas
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - It's an event meant to lure Chinese businesses to the United States and Texas specifically.
The U.S.-China Cross Border Investment Summit (USCIW) kicked off at Cowboys Stadium on Friday.
Attendees included Governor Perry who opened the summit by telling Chinese business leaders that Texas is a good place to invest.
"We're proud of building a business climate that continues to attract employers from across the country and around the globe, because that means more jobs for Texas families," Perry told the group.
Jay Riskind, the executive chair of Investment Week, explained that when the Chinese seek to invest it's about relationships.
"Chinese investors typically invest with people they know, people they like, people they trust, where they can see their money and [a place] where they can see their companies."
Governor Perry tried to make a connection by giving examples of how much China and Texas have much in common.
"From the great natural beauty, to the hard working people who want nothing more than peace and prosperity," he said.
Former President George W. Bush is scheduled to address the group Friday night at a dinner in Dallas.
China is Texas' third biggest export partner.
The 9-day US-China Investment Week event will visit six cities in the state, with a goal of building business relationships with the Chinese.
