Students Head Back To Class After Ice Days
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - There is still some ice on the ground, but classes are back in session in the Dallas Independent School District, and other districts across North Texas. Areas of slush and broken tree limbs can still be found in front of the school buildings, like at Dan D. Rogers Elementary School, as a reminder of the frosty weekend. But most DFW roads are nearly dry and clear.
Despite some icy patches on bridges and overpasses, classwork is back on for Dallas students. Kids arrived to campuses all bundled up for temperatures in the 20s, as the DISD opened its doors after days of winter weather.
"They've been off for four days," said parent Omar Kamil. "Time to go to school, learn some more stuff."
Parents said that the children were ready to get back into their regular routine. "She's happy," said Dallas parent Hector Correa about his daughter. "But they want to stay home and inside the school because it's very cold now."
School districts each have their own policies about when children should not be outside for recess and physical education classes. For example, the Richardson Independent School District has a cutoff at a wind chill of 36 degrees. Kids will most likely be staying inside on Tuesday, even though the sun is shining bright.
