Arrest Made After Student Robbed In Coppell High School Parking Lot

COPPELL (CBSDFW.COM) - Police made an arrest Wednesday night after a student was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of Coppell High School.
Officers located 29-year-old Gerald Hiam around the 100 block of Hartford Circle inside the vehicle just before 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say the Hiam became uncooperative and would not exit the vehicle. The driver was also said to have shown a handgun but did not point it at officers.
Police say the Hiam became erratic, and they believe he showed signs of drug use.
Although SWAT was notified of the incident, the driver surrendered without further incident according to police.
Hiam is being held at the Dallas County jail on an outstanding warrant for an Aggravated Robbery in Upshur County. At this time, Coppell Police are only saying that he is a suspect in the robbery at the school.
The robbery incident happened just before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening, and officers arrived at the high school campus a short time later.
The student told officers that the suspect pulled up to him in a newer silver Nissan Sentra. After first asking the student a few questions, the suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded his wallet and cell phone. The student complied and the suspect drove away from the school.
The Coppell Independent School District has promised to keep parents updated with the latest information about this case.
Meanwhile, as a precaution, the Coppell Police Department will increase their presence at the high school for at least the next week.
