GREENVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - A 12-year-old girl was hit by a car while waiting on a school bus this morning in Greenville, Texas.

A Greenville ISD school bus was stopped in the northbound lane at the entrance to the Garden Park Apartment Complex.  A man driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla was travelling in the same direction behind the bus. The driver of the Toyota reported he suffered from a bout of coughing which distracted him. When he looked up from the coughing, he found the bus stopped in front of him.

The driver took evasive action, pulling to the right and applying the brakes, but the wet road conditions caused the car to slide into the driveway of the apartment complex where the young girl was standing and striking her.

The injured girl and her mother were transported by ambulance to Hunt Regional Medical Center of Greenville.

The Greenville Police Department is still investigating the accident. Any charges are pending the completion of that investigation.
