Student Fares Announced For Denton Rail Service

DENTON (AP) - University students and staff in North Texas will soon have another option to get to and from classes.

The Denton County Transportation Authority has approved student and faculty fees to use a new 21-mile passenger rail line or to connect to Dallas Area Rapid Transit and Fort Worth Transportation services.

The so-called A-train line, between Denton and the Dallas suburb of Carrollton, is scheduled to open June 20.

Denton is home to the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University, with combined enrollment topping 45,000.

The Denton Record-Chronicle reported Monday that students would pay $175 for a semester of local service or $250 per semester for the expanded regional service. Faculty and staff would pay $250 a semester of local service, or $340 per semester of regional service.
