Student Claims Sexual Assault At Dallas Middle School

DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - Parents with children at a west Dallas middle school received notices Tuesday about an alleged sexual assault of a student on the school campus.

A 12-year-old girl and student at Edison Middle School claims someone grabbed and raped her on inside a school bathroom Monday afternoon.  She was attending an after-school program for students involved in drama.  There were also other students and staff in the building at the time of the alleged attack.  School officials

Michelle Brown, who owns a daycare center, near the school says the young girl showed up at her doorstep moments after the alleged attack.

"My heart goes out to the poor baby. Just to see how she came in here, and to talk to her," Brown recalls.  "She was trembling. She was shaking. She couldn't think straight."

Brown says she doesn't even know how the young girl made it across the street.  "I just don't understand how she got over here looking the way she looked. Her clothes weren't on. She was struggling to keep clothes on, so I don't know how she got this far."

DISD patrol units remained on campus as students showed up for school this morning.   The school also issued a carefully worded letter to parents, which says "an allegation was made that a student was assaulted on campus."

Parent Juanita Reyes is concerned about who had access to the school after classes were done for the day.  "If they were doing their job, they were here supervising, I don't believe that child would've gotten assaulted."

Dallas police are saying little about this alleged attack, only saying this is an ongoing investigation.
