Streakbuster Stars?
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - After one of their most disappointing efforts of the season in a 4-2 loss to Los Angeles on Sunday night, the Dallas Stars now try to keep the Detroit Red Wings from making NHL history.
Detroit will be shooting for its 21st straight home win when the Stars visit on Tuesday night. It would break an NHL record that has stood for 82 years.
If the Stars are going to crash Hockeytown USA's victory party plans, Dallas Head Coach Glen Gulutzan knows his team will need to play with more passion than they exhibited in a lackluster effort in Sunday's loss to the Kings.
"We should have been ready to play from the beginning," Gulutzan said. "We had a couple guys not ready to go, and we had to change our matchups a little bit."
Glutzan did not publicly specify which "couple guys" weren't ready to go in the loss to Los Angeles, but the Stars rookie coach clearly is not happy.
"You've got to maybe take away ice time from guys who aren't ready, and we tried to do that a little bit tonight," Gulutzan said. "We had a few guys that were going and chugging. We need everybody going. Guys have to be prepared to go. There's no excuses for it. If we have to go in there and amp them up every night for games like this, it will be tough."
The Stars are playing at a .500 level since the All Star break (3-3-1). It's a pace that won't get the 11th place team in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Things need to change soon, starting Tuesday night in Detroit, which right now is the toughest place for a visiting team to win a game in the history of the league.
