Stray Bullet Forces McKinney Couple To Evacuate Their Home

MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - A Collin County husband and wife say they're lucky to be alive after a bullet went flying in the middle of the night through their McKinney home forcing them to evacuate.
Now with bullet holes throughout their house, the couple is demanding answers.
A neighbor's fence and the outer wall of their home mark the early path of the bullet, but around 1:30 a.m. all Sue Gregg knew was a loud noise woke her.
"I thought maybe I had dreamt it. It sounded like a large baseball bat somebody had just smashed," Sue said.
Her husband, Jim had been watching a movie in another room when he heard the gunshot and went outside to look around. Not seeing anything he came back inside, and he and Sue started looking around the house.
"I saw the bullet hole in the wall, and then I turned around and I saw the other bullet hole," Sue said.
Before long they traced the path of the bullet from their outer wall, through both sides of an antique armoire, through an open closet door, then the master bedroom wall before lodging in a third wall. That's when Jim called police.
"They immediately come in, survey the damage, the bullet holes, took us in the front room and then asked us because of the situation evolving, they wanted us to leave the premises," Jim said.
"The officers asked us to take my car instead of Jim's truck. They needed the truck as cover, and then when we went out, they had guns drawn," Sue said.
McKinney police did not return calls about the case, but Sue says after a couple of hours officers called them to say they believed the shot came from an accidental discharge nearby, and the couple was safe to come home.
"Thank God we were not injured. We weren't killed. Somebody wasn't left to bleed to death," Sue said.
Now the husband and wife say they hope a full investigation will get to the bottom of what happened.
"If it wasn't reported immediately, there should be some accountability there," Jim said.
"Be a caring citizen. Care about your neighbors for Heaven sakes. Bullets go someplace. You can't shoot them off and think, woops," Sue said.
The couple says they're set to meet with a detective Monday.
