THE COLONY (CBSDFW.COM) - Stewart's Creek Elementary School posted a notice to parents online Wednesday about a 'stranger danger' incident that took place while some children were walking home from school in The Colony.

It happened Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Augusta Street and Water's Edge Drive, four blocks away from the campus. A man asked four students if they needed a ride. The kids reportedly said no and ran away, reporting the situation to their parents.

The children were not harmed.

Police are investigating the case, and increasing patrols over the next several days around Stewart's Creek Elementary School and nearby Lakeview Middle School.

The stranger has only been described as a white male between 35 and 40 years of age, driving a silver Ford Mustang. Anybody who might have information about this individual is urged to contact The Colony Police Department at 972-625-1887.

Eric Cockerham is principal of the Lewisville Independent School District campus, and said that he was informing all parents about the event in order to keep them informed. "The safety of your children is my upmost priority," he said. "I encourage you to visit with your children at home, reminding them to be aware of their surroundings; to walk or ride bikes to or from school in groups; and report anything that causes them concern to a trusted adult."
