Storybook Ranch To Be Rebuilt After Fire
MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - A devastating fire destroyed the event center at Storybook Ranch in McKinney last Thursday night. But a group of concerned citizens have pledged to pitch in and help rebuild the local landmark.
The Wild Bill's/Calamity Jane's entertainment pavilion & building was completely destroyed by the fire, but no one is ready to see the iconic ranch disappear.
"This has been an icon for a long time, and we have been the stewards of this icon and we are not going to let this set us back," said program director John Schaar.
The site plays host to a number of events, including weddings, celebrations, and the filming of television shows. But the greatest reason to rebuild quickly is the role it plays in the lives of many people. Therapy horses are used in work with special needs and underprivileged children.
"If you take a child with a lack of confidence and you put them on a horse and you all of a sudden see them blossom and the confidence come out in them, that to me is the best gift," said head equine activities specialist Tammy Locashio. "We need to rebuild as quickly as possible so we can get back up and serving the community."
The ranch will be open in limited capacity this week, as crews begin to demolish the burned building. Employees say they expect nothing short of a storybook ending.
