Storms Cause Flight Frustrations At DFW Airport
GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - Travelers at DFW International Airport spent hours stuck on the tarmac or sleeping in the terminal Wednesday night and into Thursday morning due to powerful storms that passed through the Metroplex. American Airlines has reported 57 flights diverted, 139 cancellations on Wednesday and another one cancellation set for Thursday.
The number of canceled Thursday flights could increase throughout the day, so travelers are advised to check their flight's status before leaving their homes. Click here to get updated flight information at DFW International Airport.
Airport officials said that 3,044 travelers stayed in the terminals overnight. The airport provided pillows, blankets, cots and toiletries to help make the experience as painless as possible, and concession stands stayed open past regular business hours. Still, many travelers were not happy with the outcome.
Passengers at the airport have been eager to share their frustrations. "Really not impressed by the way that Dallas airport, which we thought was a very sophisticated and modern airport, operates," a woman told CBS 11 News on Thursday morning. "It's quite horrific having to spend hours and hours on the tarmac."
Other passengers used Twitter late Wednesday night to share their flight frustrations.
@JasonDorsey: "Been on plane 9 hours! Should've been 30 min flt. Crazy TX storms. At least pilot n attendants r funny. Still stuck on runway. @AmericanAir"
@EricaJoycePhoto: "@AmericanAir we've been stranded & held hostage on the DFW tarmac for over 2 hrs... "waiting on a gate". Seriously?!?"
